  • Current HR certification (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and HR analytics tools (Excel, dashboards, reporting).
  • Experience authoring training or curriculum development for adults, online or self-paced learning.
  • Comfort with labs, simulations, or virtual environments for learner engagement.

  • Create curriculum and author all online learning assets for the course.
  • Serve as principal subject matter expert for the offering.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, video producers, and platform teams to deliver a high-quality online course.

Job description

UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) is the lifelong learning arm of the university. The division maintains the most diverse portfolio on the campus, with programs spanning pre-college, professional continuing education, workforce development, international academic and cultural exchange, and training services for corporate and agency partners. As a global leader in continuing education, CPE serves learners regionally, nationally and globally, and posts more than 55K enrollments annually making it the third largest UC Extension by enrollment. Beyond its community-facing role, CPE serves as the internal hub for online education in support of other academic units on the campus.

Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of Instructor Services, the Content/Development Instructor(s) will partner with various UC Davis support team members to develop an online self-study learning experience that will be delivered as the UC Davis Human Resource Specialization on the Coursera platform. The work is a ‘work for hire” focused on creating the course product. The timeframe will be established as part of the planning for development and will be agreed to by all parties. The Development/Content Instructor(s) will be the principal subject matter expert(s) for this offering. The primary responsibility of the Development/Content Instructor(s) will be to create the curriculum and author all the online digital learning assets for this course. The Development/Content Instructor(s) must be a highly credible deep domain expert who can work with CPE staff and instructional designers to create a course design of value to the targeted global audience. CPE is recruiting for leading domain experts with capabilities in the following domains:

The targeted domain for this UC Davis Specialization is professionals seeking to enter or upskill in key Human Resource areas.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or closely related field.
  • Minimum 5 + years of applied experience in Human Resources across multiple functional areas including Human Resource Management, Talent Acquisition and Management, Workforce Planning, and Compensation and/or total rewards.
  • Current certification such as SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and HR Analytic Tools (excel, dashboards, reporting tools)
  • Experience in authoring training, or curriculum development for adult learners, particularly in online or self-paced learning environments, and/or demonstrable online content development capability, such as influencer or how-to video development for YouTube or other longer-form channels on a global basis
  • Comfortable using hands-on-labs, simulations, or virtualized environments for learner engagement and assessment.
  • Ability to translate complex technical HR concepts into engaging, digestible content for global learners with varied experience levels.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or closely related field.
  • Experience developing content for Coursera, edX, Udemy, Linkedin, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with emerging trends in HR (e.g., AI in HR, skills-based hiring, future of work).
  • Demonstrated ability with storyboarding, script writing, or video-based instruction.
  • Experience contributing to or leading certification-aligned programs with academic, industry, or government training programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Instruction Designers, video producers, and platform teams to deliver high quality online courses.
Appointment

The CPE Instructor position is an exempt by-agreement appointment. The incumbent will be hired into the UC Davis payroll title of Teacher-University Extension Contract YR and will be subject to Federal and State Income Tax Withholdings.

Compensation

Compensation will be a set amount assigned based on the nature of the work, such as course development, instructional services, or coaching sessions.

Position is not eligible for UC health & welfare benefits. As a by-agreement instructor, the employment is considered “part-time” and will participate in the Defined Contribution Plan (the “DC Plan”) as a Safe Harbor participant. By-Agreement instructors are automatically enrolled in the DC Plan per their eligible appointment. Safe Harbor participants contribute 7.5% of their wages, on a pretax basis, in lieu of contributing to Social Security.
