Position: HR Generalist

Duration: 6 Months

Job Type: Contract

Summary:

  • Briefly state the primary purpose of the job.
  • This position is responsible for human resources organizational capability for the site.
  • This will involve supporting HR initiatives to increase organizational effectiveness.
  • The Human Resources Generalist will perform duties associated with some or all of the different functional HR areas including employee relations, recruiting, policy interpretation, and labor relations.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Identify the major duties/responsibilities of the job. List the percentage of the incumbent's time that will be spent on each major duty/responsibility.
  • Total should not exceed 100 percent. It is not necessary to list duties/responsibilities that represent less than 10 percent of time.

Time % Summary of major duties:

30% Employee Relations:

  • Supports employee engagement planning process and administration.
  • Manages day-to-day employee relations questions and concerns surrounding policy and procedures and partners with appropriate resources for timely solutions. Supports 2nd and 3rd shift supervisors with employee issues.
  • Ensures positive employee relations through proactive employee communication, prompt issue resolution and fair & equitable policy administration. Supports facilitation of the change management process.

25% Talent Acquisiion & Development:

  • Supports hourly and salaried talent acquisition process. Leads onboarding activities for the salaried workforce.
  • Supports implementation of talent development and learning efforts to meet organizational needs.
  • Partners with Maintenance/Tech Assurance on the administration of the Maintenance Apprenticeship Program.

30% Labor Relations:

  • Interacts positively with union leadership team and handles investigations, complaints and grievances in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Communicates as appropriate when decisions are made and changes are made to policies.
  • Supports the labor negotiations process.

15% Administrative support:

  • Responsible for assisting in developing and implementing administrative procedures and executing improvements through Human Resources and other departmental areas.

  • Organizational Development Supports HR Department 12 hour coverage goal, working directly with supervisors and support staff from their respective shift.

  • Talent Management Executes the Plant hourly hiring plan including recruiting, onboarding and orientation.
  • Monitors probationary employee progress through the probationary period including collecting feedback regarding employee performance.
  • Employee Relations Serves as a key contact for all employees regarding HR issues and programs, including leave of absence requests, employee relations issues, benefits issues, and training tracking.

  • Listening and conflict resolution skills with sensitivity to others’ needs.
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) strongly preferred.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Be specific with regard to years of experience, special training, applicable degree (or critical college level courses), as well as equivalency to education and experience.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or equivalent education or related discipline or equivalent related experience

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in Human Resources
  • Ability to lead projects to completion
  • Competent in Labor/Employee Relations, Recruitment and Selection as well as policy and procedure interpretation
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and computer literacy
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with others across levels and functions while working on multiple tasks
  • Ability to make decisions based on all relevant information and builds recommendations and solves problems based on this data. May use spreadsheets or other tools to analyse the data.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal laws and practical application.
  • This job has responsibilities that encompass food safety and food quality. Follow food safety and quality control standards, safety regulations, and standard operational methods and procedures.
