The DOJ-Office of the Attorney General in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support the Administrative Services Division. This onsite role administers personnel actions, recruits, onboarding and offboarding, and generates HR reports using state systems.

You will process employment transactions, guide benefits, verify employment eligibility, coordinate background checks and new hire orientation, and maintain job descriptions and records.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of professional-level HR experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR or a related field is preferred.
  • State government HR experience in LaGov HCM/Organizational Management/Talent Acquisition/Recruitment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process the full range of personnel actions for appointments, merit increases, promotions, transfers, separations, and related actions using the LaGov/HCM system.
  • Compute routine pay changes.
  • Explain employee benefit program options to State employees, review benefits documentation for accuracy, and forward materials to appropriate parties.
  • Provide onboarding and out-processing documents to employees and ensure forms are completed on time.
  • Manage recruiting including offers, background checks, fingerprinting, and drug screening steps.
  • Generate personnel reports from the LaGov HCM System to verify HR data.
  • Verify prior state service and process adjusted leave dates in LaGov.
  • Process verification of employment requests for active and inactive employees.
  • Process I-9 using the E-Verify system.
  • Coordinate the LADOJ New Hire Orientation program.
  • Process and maintain the LADOJ Volunteer/Intern Programs.
  • Review job files to maintain current job descriptions.
  • Collect and compile statistical data for required reports.
  • Assist agency personnel with Federal and State laws and department policies.
  • Post vacancy announcements through LaCareers, forward eligible applicants, and archive exam plans.

Job description

The DOJ-Office of the Attorney General is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support the Administrative Services Division in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This onsite role focuses on administering a range of personnel actions, coordinating key HR processes from recruiting through onboarding and offboarding, and supporting accurate reporting through state HR systems.

As a member of the HR team, you will process employment and pay-related transactions, guide employees on benefits and required documentation, and help ensure compliance through employment verification and eligibility checks.

What you will do
  • Process the full range of personnel actions for appointments, merit increases, promotions, transfers, separations, and related actions using the LaGov/HCM system.
  • Compute routine pay changes.
  • Explain employee benefit program options to State employees, review benefits documentation for accuracy and completeness, and forward materials to the appropriate parties.
  • Provide onboarding and out-processing documents to employees, offer guidance on each document, and follow up to confirm new hires complete required forms on time.
  • Manage the recruiting cycle, including extending employment offers, coordinating pre-employment background checks, and handling fingerprinting and drug-screening steps.
  • Generate personnel reports from the LaGov HCM System to verify accuracy of HR data.
  • Verify prior state service by contacting previous employers to ensure adjusted leave service dates are processed in LaGov.
  • Process verification of employment (VOE) requests for active and inactive employees.
  • Process Federal Employment Eligibility Verification (I-9) using the E-Verify system.
  • Coordinate the LADOJ New Hire Orientation program in its entirety.
  • Process and maintain the LADOJ Volunteer/Intern Programs.
  • Review job files routinely to help ensure current job descriptions are maintained for all positions.
  • Collect and compile statistical data needed for required reports.
  • Assist agency personnel with routine or limited Federal and State laws, and with department policies and procedures in assigned areas.
  • Post vacancy announcements through LaCareers, including preparing vacancy announcements, forwarding eligible applicants to the hiring manager, keying hire authorizations within 30 days, and archiving exam plans.
Required qualifications
  • Two or more years of professional level experience.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field is preferred.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with professional-level State Government HR experience in: LaGov HCM, Organizational Management, and/or Talent Acquisition/Recruitment.

Compensation and additional information
  • Location: Baton Rouge, LA (onsite), East Baton Rouge Parish.
  • Salary: USD 45,884 - 56,222 per year.
  • Employment offers are contingent upon satisfactory background check, drug testing, and reference verifications.
  • As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled as a Human Resources Generalist A-C, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
  • Salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
