Atrium is seeking an HR Generalist in Asbury Park, NJ to manage the full employee lifecycle for office and field staff. You will partner with leadership to support culture and ensure compliance with federal and New Jersey employment laws.

Responsibilities include full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, payroll support, benefits administration, and employee relations. 5+ years HR generalist experience and UKG HRIS familiarity are preferred; SHRM/HRCI certification a plus.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive HR generalist experience.
  • Knowledge of federal and New Jersey employment law and compliance.
  • Experience with payroll processing and HRIS systems, preferably UKG.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle recruiting for office and field roles.
  • Lead onboarding processes, including pre-employment screenings, paperwork, and systems setup.
  • Administer union personnel onboarding and ensure proper documentation and classification.
  • Oversee offboarding processes, including exit logistics and benefits transitions.
  • Process payroll, including union payroll and benefits coordination.
  • Maintain personnel records and update HR policies and employee handbook.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and New Jersey employment laws.
  • Administer benefits programs and coordinate with plan administrators.
  • Support employee engagement, recognition, and communication initiatives.
  • Serve as a resource for employee relations, investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Assist with performance management processes and documentation.
  • Coordinate workers’ compensation claims and OSHA recordkeeping.

Atrium is seeking on behalf of our client a HR Generalist based in Asbury Park, NJ.

Position: HR Generalist

Location: Asbury Park, NJ

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: up to 80k

Position Overview

The HR Generalist will serve as the organization’s dedicated HR professional, managing the full employee lifecycle for office and field employees. This role partners with leadership to support culture and engagement initiatives while ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities
  • Manage full-cycle recruiting for office and field roles
  • Lead onboarding processes, including pre-employment screenings, paperwork, and systems setup
  • Administer union personnel onboarding and ensure proper documentation and classification
  • Oversee offboarding processes, including exit logistics and benefits transitions
  • Process payroll, including union payroll
  • Maintain personnel records and update HR policies and employee handbook
  • Ensure compliance with federal and New Jersey employment laws and federal-contractor obligations
  • Administer benefits programs and coordinate with plan administrators
  • Support employee engagement, recognition, and communication initiatives
  • Serve as a resource for employee relations, investigations, and conflict resolution
  • Assist with performance management processes and documentation
  • Coordinate workers’ compensation claims and OSHA recordkeeping
Required Experience/Skills
  • 5+ years of progressive HR generalist experience, ideally as a sole HR practitioner or in a small HR team
  • Knowledge of federal and New Jersey employment law and compliance requirements
  • Experience with payroll processing and HRIS systems, preferably UKG
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to build trust across teams
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
Preferred Experience/Skills
  • Experience in construction, heavy civil, or federal/state contracting environments
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification
  • Background in employee engagement and culture-building initiatives
  • Familiarity with union labor processes and compliance
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent experience considered
  • Professional HR certification (SHRM or HRCI) a plus
  • Continuing education in employment law and compliance recommended
