Job description

We're looking for a hands-on Human Resources Director who wants to be in the day-to-day work, not just directing it from a distance. This role owns the full HR lifecycle — from talent acquisition and employee relations to compliance, performance management, and workforce planning — and requires someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and personally handling HR matters as they come up.

If you're an experienced HR leader who prefers to be directly involved in the details rather than delegating them out, and who thrives on building strong programs, coaching managers, and staying ahead of employment law, we'd love to hear from you.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and lead HR strategy across talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, and organizational development
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and coach to leadership and management on HR matters
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment law, including OSHA requirements, and keep leadership informed of legislative changes
  • Own the performance management process, including coaching managers on feedback and building performance improvement plans
  • Personally handle employee relations matters, investigations, and disciplinary processes in partnership with legal counsel
  • Directly negotiate collective bargaining agreements, manage union contract administration, and represent the organization in grievance and arbitration proceedings
  • Design and personally manage HR programs such as employee recognition, service awards, and job description management
  • Use HRIS data and metrics to guide workforce planning, staffing decisions, and hiring strategy
  • Manage the HR department budget and ensure fiscal accountability
  • Work alongside a small HR team, staying closely involved in day-to-day HR operations rather than delegating them out
What You Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3+ years managing HR staff
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated skill in policy administration, compensation, and HR analytics
  • Direct experience negotiating union contracts and administering collective bargaining agreements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
  • MBA or Master's degree in HR or a related field
  • Experience representing management in grievance and arbitration proceedings
