E-commerce organization in NYC seeks an HR Compliance Manager to own and manage compliance needs and process improvement for the firm, including managing internal audits and compliance around all HR processes.

Hybrid schedule, 4 days onsite, 1 remote

Hours: 8:30am-5pm

Responsibilities

• The HR Compliance Manager will oversee compliance programs ensuring adherence to employment laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with HR, Legal, and Talent Acquisition to implement compliance standards across the employee lifecycle.
• Lead initiatives to maintain compliance with domestic and international employment policies and practices.
• Drive compliance programs that align with the organization’s culture of fairness and integrity.
• Ensure accurate documentation and audit readiness for background checks and I-9 compliance.
• Support reviews of restrictive covenant agreements and offboarding protocols for legal compliance.
• Collaborate with Payroll and HR Operations to meet pay, tax, and reporting obligations.
• Act as a trusted advisor to HR and business leaders on compliance practices.

• Manage vendor relationships and ensure compliance with FCRA, EEOC, and state/local requirements.
• Oversee employment law compliance in areas such as leaves, salary transparency, and recordkeeping.
• Partner with Legal to develop and maintain domestic and international employment policies.
• Conduct internal audits to reduce risk and support reporting requirements.
• Maintain compliance with pay, tax, and reporting obligations through collaboration with Payroll and HR Operations.
• Support policy and training updates to ensure timely compliance with regulatory changes.
• Design and manage background check packages and escalation procedures for operating companies.
• Foster understanding and accountability around compliance practices among HR and business leaders.
• Drive initiatives to integrate compliance into the organization’s culture and operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
• 5+ years of HR compliance or related experience; 7+ years preferred.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. employment laws and background check regulations.
• Experience with third-party background screening vendors and compliance tracking tools.
• HR certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR are preferred.
• Familiarity with Oracle HR systems is a plus.
• Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and ability to explain complex rules clearly.
• Experience in multi-state or global organizations is advantageous.
• Proactive and collaborative approach to compliance and risk management.
