Job summary

Hard Rock Hotel Cancun is seeking an HR Business Partner to serve as an internal consultant to management on people-related matters and to lead investigations with discretion and integrity.

You will maintain thorough documentation, manage employee relations issues, and support benefits and ADA accommodation processes while collaborating with legal resources and management teams. A Bachelor’s in HR or related field is preferred, with 2–5 years in HR and 1–2 years in employee relations.

  • Flexibility to work various shifts and schedules
  • Working knowledge of labor and employment laws

Responsibilities

  • Acts as internal consultant to management on employee questions while protecting confidentiality.
  • Conducts employment-related investigations and determines resolutions including performance consequences.
  • Maintains documentation on investigations in an organized filing system.
  • Ensures timely responses to team member relations issues through counseling and proactive problem solving.
  • Ensures ADA accommodation process is followed and conducted interactively with employees.
  • Works with legal resources to respond to government agency claims (EEOC, DOL, NLRB).
  • Manages unemployment claims and prepares for hearings.
  • Supports collective bargaining administration and arbitrations.
  • Conducts exit interviews and monitors turnover metrics.
  • Provides training on HR practices, guidelines, and programs.

Job Description: HR – Business Partner

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

May include but are not limited to:

  • Functions as an internal consultant to assist management in identifying and resolving team member and team leader questions/concerns while maintaining and respecting confidential information.
  • Conducts thorough employment-related internal investigations with union and non-union team members and/or departments and identifies appropriate resolution including performance consequences for investigations, up to and including separation of employment.
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation on all investigations in an organized filing system.
  • Ensures timely and effective responses to team member relations issues through team member and team leader counseling, and preventative problem solving with department management.
  • Ensures compliance and completion of entire ADA accommodation process.
  • Engages team members with requests for accommodation and ensures the interactive process takes place in a thorough and timely manner.
  • Works with internal and external legal resources to investigate and respond to government agency claims including, but not limited to EEOC charges of discrimination, harassment or retaliation, Department of Labor, and/or charges of unfair labor practices filed with the National Labor Relations Board.
  • Ensures all legal documentation is read, responded to in a timely and accurate manner.
  • All legal matters are maintained in organized filing system.
  • Administers unemployment claims administration process and participates in and schedules relevant parties for unemployment hearings.
  • Receives subpoena requests for information related to team members and guests and responds thoroughly and promptly.
  • Partners with management team in the administration of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Processes grievances and provides arbitration support, interpreting and ensuring compliance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreements.
  • Conducts exit interviews.
  • Monitors departmental metrics to identify turnover trends and makes recommendations for positive change.
  • Participates in employee retention programs and makes recommendations on how to reduce employee turnover (overall and less than 90 days).
  • Assists in performance management initiative ensuring leadership team is trained on coaching, corrective actions and performance review process.
  • Ensures all documentation is thorough, accurate and timely.
  • Provides training, education and counseling to the workforce on HR practices, policies and guidelines including programs such as new hire orientation, performance management programs, career planning, behavioral interviewing, and other critical HR topics.
  • Establishes credibility and trust with all levels of team members by developing professional working relationships.
  • Ensures team maintains compliance with all policies and procedures, collective bargaining requirements and employment/labor laws.
  • Tracks open/closed investigations and other legal matters in a timely and organized manner.
  • Ensures HR property-wide visibility Acts as property liaison with corporate Home Office.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, strong project management skills, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions when handling team member conflicts.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage several projects, and not be frustrated by changing priorities and unforeseen obstacles to achieving objectives.
  • Able to react quickly and efficiently to newly presented demands.
  • Able to maintain a positive attitude while performing within stressful situations and handling complex emotional issues.
  • Ability to uphold and demonstrate the highest level of integrity in all situations and recognize standards required by a regulated business.
  • Must be able to properly manage confidential information.
  • Must have good communication (verbal and written), data-entry and clerical skills required.
  • Must have the ability to write complex correspondence.
  • Ability to work in a team environment is a must.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules, including hours/days.
  • Must be a creative, high energy, hands on professional who can successfully multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have the ability to uphold and demonstrate the highest level of integrity in all situations and recognize standards required by a regulated business.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or business-related field preferred.
  • Two to five years Human Resources experience preferred.
  • One to two years of employee relations experience preferred.
  • Available to work various shifts and a flexible schedule.
  • Working knowledge of labor and employment laws.
  • Proficiency required in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience in Access preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels in the organization.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The working conditions are those typically found in an indoor, climate controlled office environment. Will be exposed to casino related factors including but not limited to second hand smoke, excessive noise, large crowds and stress related to servicing guests in a high pressure and fast paced environment. This position requires frequent sitting, walking, sometimes stooping, bending and lifting up to a maximum of 25 lbs. The incumbent will be located in a fast paced, professional office environment with occasional exposure to casino related factors including, but not limited to, second hand smoke, excessive noise, large crowds and stress related to servicing guests in a high pressure and fast paced environment.
