Job summary

Progress Industries is seeking an experienced and organized Human Resources Associate to join our Human Resources team in Newton, Iowa. This role reports to the Director of Human Resources and supports employees, supervisors, and managers across the organization.

The position requires hands-on HR experience across multiple areas, strong confidentiality, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of Human Resources experience.
  • Experience with confidential employee information and HR documentation.
  • Experience in multiple areas of Human Resources, such as employee relations, leave administration, disciplinary processes, investigations, benefits, recruiting, or HR administration.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment when handling sensitive employee matters.
  • Ability to recognize when an issue requires escalation to the Director of Human Resources.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of an HR team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with employee relations and workplace concerns.
  • Review disciplinary and performance documentation for completeness, consistency, and appropriate supporting information.
  • Assist with preparation of disciplinary documentation under the direction of the Director of Human Resources.
  • Assist in workplace investigations under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, including gathering documentation, and preparing investigation notes and summaries.
  • Identify inconsistencies, missing information, or concerns that require additional review or escalation.
  • Administer and track FMLA, short-term disability, general leaves of absence, and other assigned leave programs.
  • Communicate with employees regarding leave documentation, deadlines, eligibility requirements, and return-to-work requirements.
  • Assist employees with routine benefit questions and benefit enrollment matters.
  • Track and follow up on performance evaluations for non-unit employees.
  • Prepare HR correspondence, employee documentation, leave documentation, and other Human Resources materials.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee and HR records.
  • Research HR-related questions, policies, and employment matters as assigned.
  • Serve as a backup interviewer when additional recruiting support is needed.
  • Assist with Human Resources projects and other departmental responsibilities as assigned.

Progress Industries is seeking an experienced and organized Human Resources Associate to join our Human Resources team.

This position is ideal for an HR professional who has hands-on experience in multiple areas of Human Resources and is comfortable managing competing priorities, confidential employee matters, and time-sensitive responsibilities.

The Human Resources Associate will work closely with and under the direction of the Director of Human Resources while providing support to employees, supervisors, and managers throughout the organization.

What You'll Do

What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of Human Resources experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of Human Resources experience.
  • Experience with FMLA and leave administration.
  • Experience assisting with employee relations and workplace investigations.
  • Experience reviewing or preparing disciplinary and performance documentation.
  • Experience in healthcare, human services, nonprofit, or another regulated work environment.
  • Experience working in an organization with both union and non-unit employees.
