Job summary

Johnson & Johnson MedTech is seeking a multi‑faceted Human Factors Engineer for a 4‑month on‑site co‑op in Raritan, NJ (Jan–May 2027). You’ll lead usability research for medical devices, create HF documentation, and collaborate with product teams to improve user experiences.

Housing is not provided, but a one-time stipend may be offered. The role requires enrollment in a related degree program, 2nd year or higher, and US work authorization without future sponsorship.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in college pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Human Factors Engineering, Usability Engineering, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Mechanical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering; PhD candidates will not be considered
• 2nd year of bachelor’s or above required
• Authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship not required in future
• Availability for at most a 4‑month co‑op rotation
• GPA 3.0+ with demonstrated leadership/participation
• Understanding of research process; design project or user-centered research preferred
• Knowledge of human factors and design principles; basics of anthropometrics, biomechanics, physiology
• Experience consolidating user feedback into insights; root cause analysis preferred
• Familiarity with FDA, ISO, AAMI usability regulations is highly preferred

Responsibilities

• Leverage human factors standards to inform new product designs for safe, effective use
• Plan, conduct, and report user research activities (ethnography, focus groups, usability tests)
• Consolidate user feedback into design insights and recommendations
• Perform root cause analyses for use-related problems observed in usability testing
• Understand use environments and assist in creating user workflows
• Comply with medical device human factors standards and guidance
• Contribute to formal HF documentation (test plans, reports, risk analyses)
• Author study materials (consent forms, recruitment screens, moderator guides)
