FedWriters, Inc. is seeking a Human Centered Design Expert to support HHS OMH in creating accessible materials for LEP communities. The role emphasizes applying human-centered design to health information and government materials, with a focus on accessibility and clear communication.

The position is full-time and remote, with standard US Eastern Time hours, and requires a strong background in design principles, health communications, and security clearance eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human-centered design, user experience design, computer science, or a related field.
• At least six years of experience providing human-centered design consultation, preferably in a public health or federal government setting.
• Must be eligible for an HHS Public Trust security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Review, recommend, and implement changes to ensure revised materials incorporate human-centered design principles.
• Review materials and recommend improvements based on human-centered design principles.
• Apply human-centered design processes for LEP communities and evaluate correspondence designs.
• Advise on human-centered design matters and provide design templates guidance.
• Contribute to contract deliverables including literacy promotion materials and outreach materials.
• Manage multiple deliverables and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Attend project status meetings biweekly.

Overview

As a Human Centered Design Expert, you will help the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) to meet its mission of providing national leadership, resources, and coordination to improve the health of racial and ethnic minority populations and American Indians and Alaska Natives and to eliminate health disparities. You will use your human-centered design knowledge, skills, and abilities to produce materials that are more accessible to limited English proficiency (LEP) communities, helping HHS OMH to promote programs, initiatives and administration health priorities, empowering LEP communities to access HHS OMH materials independently, and making them more informed about important health and wellness issues. Work Schedule and Location:

Remote: This full-time remote position will work Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm Eastern Time.

Responsibilities

• Review, recommend, and implement changes to ensure that revised HHS OHM materials incorporate human-centered design principles.
• Review HHS OMH materials and recommend improvements to them based on human-centered design principles.
• Apply human-centered design processes to materials produced for LEP communities, determine and recommend design solutions and improvements, and evaluate correspondence designs according to LEP community requirements.
• Advise HHS OMH on human-centered design matters.
• Provide general advice on designs and templates as well as specific advice on revised HHS OMH materials.
• Contribute to and provide consultation on contract deliverables, including English literacy promotion materials, community outreach materials, meeting agendas, annual reports, and final reports.
• Juggle multiple deliverables and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
• Attend and contribute to project status update meetings at least biweekly.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in human-centered design, user experience design, computer science, or a related field of study.
• At least six years of experience providing human-centered design consultation, preferably in a public health or federal government setting.
• Must be eligible for an HHS Public Trust security clearance.

Desired:

• Master’s degree in human-centered design, user experience design, computer science, or a similar field of study.
• Federal government, government contracting, or public health experience preferred but not required.

Pay Range

$41.60 to $48.93/hour, depending on experience, education and clearance level.
