Job summary

Housing Rights Committee of San Francisco is seeking a HUD Tenant Organizer to empower tenants in HUD‑subsidized buildings in San Francisco. You will lead door‑to‑door outreach, build tenant associations, and develop leaders to drive campaigns for timely repairs and long‑term affordability.

You will coordinate with the HUD Organizing Team, deliver Know Your Rights education, and participate in policy initiatives supporting low-income and immigrant communities.

Qualifications

• Experience working for social and economic justice (paid or unpaid).
• Knowledge of issues impacting tenants, immigrants, and people with low incomes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct door-to-door outreach and one-on-one conversations with tenants in HUD-subsidized buildings.
• Support development of majority-based tenant associations through participation tracking.
• Identify and develop tenant leaders capable of taking responsibility within associations.
• Convene and facilitate regular tenant meetings and orientations.
• Participate in campaign planning with HUD tenants, including petitions and meetings with property management.
