Job summary

OpenAI, Inc. is seeking an HSE and Portfolio Performance Lead to strengthen health, safety and environmental oversight across our data center construction portfolio. You will help sites meet OSHA standards and other HSE requirements through construction, commissioning and handoff to Operations.

You will work with site teams, delivery partners and central functions to set expectations, verify execution and turn portfolio data into actionable improvements for contractor performance and readiness.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience leading HSE programs for major construction or complex projects.
• Working knowledge of OSHA construction and general-industry standards.
• Practical understanding of data center or complex industrial hazards.
• Demonstrated ability to build assurance, reporting and corrective-action programs.
• Experience coordinating contractors and site leaders through commissioning and handoff.
• Strong communication and judgment to explain risk and influence teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop a consistent portfolio HSE framework across contractor expectations, risk assessments, field verification and escalation.
• Translate OSHA requirements into practical site expectations and verify implementation.
• Partner with site leaders to assess high-risk work and verify critical controls.
• Establish portfolio performance measures and reporting for HSE outcomes and readiness.
• Lead cross-site reviews to identify recurring risks and drive improvement plans.
• Plan risk-based site assurance and contractor reviews, and support incident investigations.
• Coordinate environmental compliance including waste management and permit obligations.
• Define HSE readiness criteria for handoff with commissioning and Operations.
• Provide portfolio updates and surface resource needs to leadership.
