Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an HSE and Portfolio Performance Lead based in the United States.

The HSE and Portfolio Performance Lead will drive health, safety, and environmental excellence across a growing portfolio of data center construction projects. This role combines hands‑on HSE expertise with strategic portfolio oversight to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable infrastructure delivery. You will establish consistent safety standards, strengthen contractor accountability, and translate performance data into actionable improvements across multiple sites. Working closely with engineering, construction, commissioning, and Operations teams, you will help manage critical risks and ensure facilities are ready for operational handoff. You will also lead cross‑site reviews, support incident investigations, and promote continuous improvement in environmental compliance and safety performance. This is an opportunity to influence large‑scale infrastructure development while fostering a proactive safety culture in a dynamic, fast‑paced, and remote‑friendly environment.

Accountabilities
  • Develop and implement a consistent portfolio‑wide HSE framework covering contractor expectations, risk assessments, field verification, training, escalation procedures, and alignment with established environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Interpret applicable OSHA construction and general‑industry requirements, translate them into practical site‑level controls, and verify compliance throughout construction, commissioning, and operational handoff.
  • Collaborate with site leaders and technical specialists to assess high‑risk activities, validate critical safety controls, and elevate unsafe conditions involving electrical energization, hazardous energy, lifting operations, excavation, and simultaneous construction and operational activities.
  • Establish and maintain portfolio performance indicators and reporting processes covering HSE outcomes, contractor performance, corrective‑action closure, and operational readiness, ensuring consistent definitions and reliable data.
  • Lead cross‑site performance reviews to identify recurring risks, assess compliance with agreed standards, and implement improvement plans with clear ownership, milestones, and follow‑up.
  • Plan and coordinate risk‑based site audits, assurance activities, and contractor reviews; support incident and near‑miss investigations, verify corrective actions, and share lessons learned across the portfolio.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance activities, including waste management, spill prevention, stormwater controls, and applicable permit requirements, in partnership with site teams and subject‑matter experts.
  • Define HSE readiness requirements for the transition from construction to commissioning and Operations, ensuring appropriate training, procedures, emergency preparedness, risk documentation, and transfer of required records.
  • Provide clear performance updates and strategic recommendations to leadership, identify emerging risks and resource requirements, and strengthen safety leadership across employees, developers, contractors, and service providers.
Requirements
  • Significant experience leading HSE programs for major construction projects or complex industrial environments, including multi‑site operations, portfolio oversight, and contractor performance management.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable OSHA construction and general‑industry standards, with demonstrated experience translating regulatory requirements into practical controls and verifying their implementation across construction, commissioning, and operational interfaces.
  • Practical understanding of data center, mission‑critical infrastructure, or complex industrial hazards, including electrical safety, hazardous‑energy control, and high‑risk construction activities.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage HSE assurance frameworks, performance reporting systems, corrective‑action programs, and leading and lagging safety indicators to improve outcomes.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, site leadership, and cross‑functional specialists to support commissioning and operational handoff, with the ability to establish clear accountability across organizational boundaries.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, with sound judgment and the ability to explain technical risks, influence stakeholders, and prioritize actions in rapidly evolving environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining consistent safety and compliance standards across multiple projects and teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in owner‑side HSE oversight across a data center or mission‑critical infrastructure portfolio, including developer‑led and self‑build delivery models.
  • Familiarity with integrating environmental compliance, emergency preparedness, and HSE management systems into construction delivery and operational readiness programs.
  • Relevant professional certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or an equivalent safety or environmental qualification, or comparable practical expertise.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation: Annual base salary ranging from $177,000 to $285,000, depending on location, qualifications, skills, and experience.
  • Equity and performance incentives: Equity awards and performance‑related bonuses for eligible employees, in addition to base salary.
  • Comprehensive healthcare: Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families, with employer contributions to Health Savings Accounts.
  • Financial and retirement benefits: Access to a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching, plus pre‑tax accounts for healthcare, dependent care, and eligible commuter expenses.
  • Generous paid leave: Flexible paid time off for exempt employees, up to 15 days annually for non‑exempt employees, 13 or more paid company holidays, and paid sick or safe time in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Family and caregiver support: Up to 24 weeks of paid parental leave for birth parents and 20 weeks for non‑birthing parents, plus up to eight weeks of paid medical and caregiver leave.
  • Health and well‑being: Mental health and wellness support, employer‑paid basic life and disability coverage, and additional wellness‑related benefits where applicable.
  • Professional development: An annual learning and development stipend to support ongoing skills development and career growth.
