Job summary

UMBC on campus seeks an HR Specialist I to serve as the primary data input and maintenance specialist for PeopleSoft and related HR/Payroll systems. The role focuses on timely, accurate processing of employee lifecycle transactions including onboarding, compensation changes, benefits updates, and separations to protect payroll and reporting integrity.

The position offers a hybrid telework option, competitive pay starting at $24.00 per hour, vacation, breaks, personal days, and tuition remission

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or related field.
• At least one year of HR or payroll data entry and transaction processing experience.
• Ability to interpret and apply HR policies to data and transactions.
• Expert-level data entry skills with a low error rate on high-volume transactions.
• Advanced proficiency with spreadsheet software and database tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for data quality and reconciliation.

Responsibilities

• Enter, review, and finalize high-volume HR/payroll transactions in PeopleSoft from various sources.
• Audit data against source documents; perform data quality checks and resolve discrepancies.
• Develop SOPs and training materials; participate in UAT for system upgrades.
• Administer advanced leave programs; advise employees and coordinate approvals.
• Generate reports and handle HRIS inquiries; communicate with IT when issues arise.
