Job summary

CREC, located in Hartford, CT, is seeking a Human Resources Specialist I to support operations, onboarding, compensation, and talent acquisition across multiple districts.

You will manage unemployment, new-hire documentation, salary placement, and CTRB compliance while partnering with managers and external partners to ensure accurate records and compliant processes in a diverse workplace.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of related HR experience.
• SHRM certification preferred is advantageous.
• Experience with HRIS and ATS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and administers HR programs including operations, onboarding, unemployment, compensation, and post-retirement reemployment per policy and law.
• Manages unemployment claims processing, reviews history, gathers docs, and supports hearings.
• Administers teacher salary lane advancement per CBAs and guidelines; verifies credentials and communicates determinations.
• Processes new-hire onboarding docs; ensures completeness and accuracy within timelines.
• Determines initial salary placement for new hires based on CBAs and placement guidelines.
• Serves as primary resource on CTRB requirements for post-retirement reemployment and related reports.
• Assists with E-Verify, I-9 reverifications, EAD renewals, and background checks; ensures compliance.
• Oversees onboarding completion, provides offer letters and benefits info to new hires.
• Develops relationships with managers, employees, and external partners; provides HR policy guidance.
• Represents CREC at college or community job fairs; may work after hours or weekends.
• Develops trainings and informational materials on processes, policies, and compliance.
• Supports diversity and inclusion initiatives via HR processes and programs.
• Evaluates HR operational processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
