Job summary

A Safe Place in Zion, IL is seeking an HR Manager to be the primary HR contact for about 80 staff. Reporting to the CEO, you will guide HR practices to align with employment law and organizational policies, covering employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, performance management, and benefits administration.

The role focuses on building a positive workplace culture, ensuring legal compliance, and supporting leadership with people strategies in a nonprofit setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years’ experience in Human Resources.
• Nonprofit HR experience is a plus.
• HR Certification (SHRM-CP or PHR) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coach and advise senior leadership on HR strategy and best practices. Serve as subject matter expert on HR topics.
• Review HR policies and procedures for compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Review HR procedures and implement process improvements.
• Recruit for open positions, post roles, interview, and onboard new hires smoothly.
• Conduct investigations to resolve workplace conflicts and promote a positive culture.
• Lead the performance review process and coach managers on improvements.
• Benchmark compensation and lead salary reviews and adjustments.
• Administer employee benefits and answer questions.
• Coordinate training programs and leadership development initiatives.
• Manage the LMS and assist with training assignments.
• Maintain HRIS data accuracy.
• Manage employee separations and conduct exit interviews.
