Our client, a well-established and growing construction company with approximately 50 employees, is seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead all human resources functions as a one-person HR department. This is a hands‑on role for an HR professional who thrives in a fast‑paced construction environment and enjoys owning the full employee lifecycle from recruitment through employee relations and compliance.

The ideal candidate will have prior HR experience within the construction industry and be comfortable partnering directly with company leadership while supporting both office and field employees.

Responsibilities

• Manage all day‑to‑day human resources functions for the organization
• Lead recruitment efforts, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding
• Administer employee benefits, workers' compensation, and leave programs
• Maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee records
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
• Handle employee relations matters and provide guidance to managers and employees
• Oversee performance management processes and employee development initiatives
• Manage payroll coordination and HRIS administration
• Support safety programs and collaborate with operations leadership as needed
• Coordinate training, certifications, and employee documentation for field personnel
• Assist leadership with workforce planning, retention strategies, and organizational growth

Qualifications

• Required: Previous Human Resources experience within the construction industry
• 5+ years of progressive HR experience preferred
• Experience serving as a standalone HR professional or in a small HR department strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, benefits administration, and employee relations
• Experience supporting both hourly field employees and salaried office staff
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR systems
