Job description

This role is an opportunity to become the first HR hire for Shepherdtech’s U.S. team and help build the foundation of how people, policies, and culture take shape from day one.

You will support the entire U.S. organization, including sales, marketing, and a manufacturing site, with roughly equal exposure across office and factory environments. This is not a narrow HR role. You will have the autonomy to localize policies, propose solutions that fit the U.S. context, and directly influence how a fast-growing pet industry startup operates on the ground.

As the U.S. organization scales, this role is expected to grow into the U.S. HR Head position, making it an ideal opportunity for an HR professional who wants ownership, learning, and long-term impact rather than a fixed job scope.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. federal and state labor laws, including wages, overtime, leave, anti-discrimination, and workplace safety.
  • Oversee payroll, attendance, and time-off administration, working with external payroll providers or advisors as needed.
  • Serve as the primary HR point of contact for all U.S. employees, handling day-to-day HR questions and employee relations issues.
  • Support the entire U.S. organization, including sales, marketing, and manufacturing teams, with balanced exposure across office and factory environments.
  • Implement and manage core HR processes such as onboarding, offboarding, and basic HR operations from the ground up.
  • Support performance and goal management processes for U.S. teams, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Coordinate training and development initiatives, including onboarding, compliance training, and sales enablement.
  • Localize and propose HR policies tailored to U.S. labor practices and cultural context, rather than only executing headquarters templates.
  • Act as the HR bridge between the U.S. team and Taiwan headquarters, providing feedback, context, and practical recommendations as the organization scales.
Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in Human Resources.
  • Experience supporting recruiting and core HR operations.
  • General understanding of U.S. employment laws and HR compliance.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Sound judgment and attention to detail.
Desired Qualities
  • Comfort communicating in Mandarin for occasional meetings with Taiwan headquarters.
  • Comfort leading HR in a true 0–1 environment, with the opportunity to define, shape, and scale foundational HR practices for the U.S. team.
  • Ability to work across both office and manufacturing environments.
  • High autonomy and adaptability in a startup environment.
  • Trustworthy and approachable, with strong judgment in sensitive situations.
  • Problem-solving mindset, able to seek external expertise when needed and move issues forward independently.
  • This role is expected to evolve into the U.S. HR Head position as the U.S. organization grows in size and complexity.
  • You will play a key role in shaping long-term people strategy, HR infrastructure, and organizational culture in the U.S. market.
