Job summary

The St. Charles Public Library is seeking a knowledgeable, organized, and service-oriented Human Resources Generalist to join our Administration team.

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the HR Generalist supports a broad range of human resources functions throughout the employee lifecycle—from recruitment and onboarding through benefits administration, payroll, leave management, employee relations, performance management, training, and offboarding.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HR, business administration, public administration, or related field.
• At least three (3) years of professional HR experience.
• Certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR) or ability to obtain within two years.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate recruitment activities, including postings, screening, interviews, references, and background checks.
• Prepare offers, onboarding materials, and new-employee documentation.
• Process biweekly payroll and maintain payroll records.
• Coordinate payroll changes, leave balances, deductions, and status updates.
• Assist in administering health, dental, vision, life, and retirement benefits.
• Serve as a primary resource for benefits enrollment and questions.
