Job summary

The City of Clayton is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support employees across recruiting, benefits, and HR programs. This hands-on role focuses on accuracy, policy explanation, and building trust with staff and supervisors.

Typical hours are M-F 8:00am-5:00pm with occasional early mornings/evenings for events; starting salary is $67,394.78, with opportunities to contribute across HR functions.

Qualifications

• Three years of progressively responsible HR experience.
• Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to learn and effectively use HR technology.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, interview, and facilitate hiring for City positions.
• Administer benefits, leave, and other HR programs.
• Partner with Payroll to maintain accurate employee earnings, benefits, and deductions.
• Maintain HRIS and personnel records.
• Support employee onboarding, recognition, engagement, and employee events.
• Help develop and implement initiatives that support employee morale, communication, and workplace culture.
• Respond to questions from employees, applicants, and supervisors.
• Support training and professional development initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices.
• Stay current on HR trends, technology, and employment law.
• Support the Senior Human Resources Generalist and the overall operation of the HR office.
