Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist supports the daily operations of the Human Resources Department by administering a variety of HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, performance management, onboarding, training, policy compliance, and personnel records management. The HR Generalist serves as a resource to employees and managers, ensuring the consistent application of organizational policies, employment laws, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and facilitate orientation and hiring activities.
  • Screen applications, schedule interviews, and conduct preliminary candidate assessments.
  • Organize pre-employment orientation activities.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee questions and concerns.
  • Promote positive employee engagement and workplace culture.
  • Assist employees with benefits enrollment and changes.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment activities.
  • Administer leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other applicable leave policies.
  • Liaise with benefits providers and vendors.
  • Support performance evaluation processes.
  • Assist managers with employee development plans and coaching strategies.
  • Coordinate employee training and professional development programs.
  • Maintain training records and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Assist with policy development, implementation, and communication.
  • Maintain personnel files and HR records in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to HR activities and compliance audits.
  • Maintain employee information within the HR information system.
  • Generate workforce reports and employment metrics.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible HR experience.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and related requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Proficiency with HRIS, MS Office Suite, and applicant tracking systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, and HR compliance.
  • Experience within the public sector or municipal government.
  • Familiarity with HR systems such as ADP.
  • Certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
