Job summary

One More Child is seeking an HR Compliance Manager in Lakeland, FL to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws. The role serves as the SME on HR compliance, including wage and hour laws, background screening, payroll tax requirements, and audit readiness.

Responsibilities include guiding compliance risk, coordinating multi-state wage and tax obligations, overseeing background checks, and acting as primary contact for audits and regulatory inquiries.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field or equivalent experience preferred.
• 3+ years of HR experience focusing on compliance, employee relations or employment law.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
• Oversee the required background check process for new and existing employees.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for hiring managers during background screening.
• Maintain open communication between HR and new hires during onboarding.
• Advise HR leadership on compliance risks and mitigation strategies.
• Oversee multi-state employment requirements, including pay laws, tax withholding, and reporting.
• Coordinate with payroll and finance on payroll tax regulations and filings.
• Ensure proper employee classification (exempt/non-exempt, employee vs. contractor).
• Support year-end reporting (W-2s, 1099s) and timely filings.
• Serve as primary contact for HR-related audits and audits responses.
• Lead preparation and response for audits (DOL, IRS, state agencies, etc.).
• Ensure compliance with staffing, background checks, credentialing, and documentation.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation and corrective action plans.
