Job summary

The University of Kansas is seeking an HR Communications Coordinator to develop and execute a comprehensive internal communications strategy for HR programs and priorities across all KU campuses. Working with the Office of Public Affairs and campus partners, this role ensures HR information is clear, timely, accessible, and aligned with the university’s mission.

The position is in-person at Lawrence and Medical Center campuses, with some remote-work flexibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field plus 1 year of internal communications OR an Associate’s degree plus 3 years OR a HS diploma/GED plus 5 years in internal communications.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading with ability to translate complex information into employee-friendly language.
  • Experience managing web or intranet content.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an HR communications calendar for all HR programs and initiatives.
  • Partner with HR leadership to plan and deliver strategic communications for policy changes, program rollouts, and organizational initiatives.
  • Create clear, engaging written, visual, and verbal communications for diverse employee audiences.
  • Manage the distribution of HR messages across email, newsletters, websites, intranets, presentations, and campus outlets.
  • Oversee HR newsletters and content placement on KU Today and Campus Insider.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Public Affairs to ensure message alignment.
  • Maintain HR web and intranet content ensuring accuracy and ADA accessibility.
  • Apply plain‑language and inclusive communication principles to improve understanding.
  • Track and assess communication effectiveness and adjust strategies as needed.
