Job summary

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is seeking an HR Communications Specialist to lead internal communications for Tribal Operations. You will craft and manage messages about HR programs, benefits, and policies across emails, the intranet, and beacon app, ensuring clarity and timely delivery.

You will collaborate with Marketing, Talent Management, and HR partners to design new hire orientation materials and improve engagement metrics through data-driven insights.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
• 4–6 years of experience in HR, internal, or corporate communications.
• Excellent writing skills with adaptable style for different stakeholders.
• Experience with social media platforms and digital comms apps; comfortable learning new technologies.
• Excellent verbal skills to partner with all levels of HR and leadership.
• Strong project management capabilities; multi-project handling.
• Flexible and open to change; focused on continuous improvement.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Suite.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute internal communications plans with HR, Marketing, and Tribal Operations leaders.
• Write, design, and edit HR content for emails, newsletters, FAQs, toolkits, talking points, and intranet posts.
• Manage HR content across channels to optimize engagement and timing.
• Collaborate to develop and proof SMSC announcements and executive communications.
• Monitor metrics, analyze engagement data, and recommend improvements.
• Champion SMSC core values in internal communications.
