• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
• 4-6 years of experience in HR communications, internal communications, or corporate communications.
• Excellent writing skills with ability to adapt style to stakeholder and audience.
• Experience with social media platforms and digital communications apps; able to learn new technologies.
• Strong verbal skills to partner with HR, leaders, and team members.
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Write, design, and edit HR content for emails, newsletters, FAQs, toolkits, talking points, presentations, and app posts; maintain editorial calendars.
• Manage HR content across channels for the team member app, digital signage, HR Hub, monthly news broadcast, and weekly emails.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to design and proof content for SMSC announcements and distribute executive communications.
• Monitor and analyze communication metrics and engagement data; recommend improvements based on insights.
• Champion SMSC core values and integrate into internal communications.

Job description

Job Overview:

The HR Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and executing communications and content strategies to inform, educate, and engage Tribal Operations team members on HR programs, policies, benefits, processes, and initiatives of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC). This role serves as the primary communications and content lead for the HR Department, ensuring team members receive clear, consistent, timely, and effective messaging across multiple channels.

The HR Communications Specialist will work directly with the Marketing and Communications team and the broader HR Department to highlight important programs and offerings through daily, weekly, and monthly communications, including writing email content and designing creative posts for the SMSC’s internal communications app—beacon—and team member intranet. This role is also responsible for assisting with the creation of new hire orientation materials and will collaborate with the Talent Management team and HR Business Partners on successful execution.

Job Duties:

• Partner with HR, Marketing and Communications, and Tribal Operations leaders to develop and execute internal communications plans that highlight and reinforce key HR updates, engagement, recognition, and values.
• Write, design, and edit HR content for team member communications, including emails, newsletter articles, FAQs, toolkits, talking points, presentations, app/web posts, and more. Maintain editorial calendars for team member communications.
• Manage HR content across communication channels for Tribal Operations team members, including the team member app, digital signage, HR Hub, monthly team member news broadcast, and weekly email communications to optimize channel usage and ensure communication effectiveness.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop, design, and proof content for SMSC announcements, messages, and internal news updates. Work directly with the Tribal Communications Strategist to identify, develop, and/or distribute executive communications on behalf of various Tribal Operations leaders.
• Monitor and analyze communication metrics and team member engagement data (e.g., open rates, click-through rates, feedback, etc.), and recommend improvements based on insights.
• Champion the SMSC's core values and integrate into internal communications.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
• 4-6 years of experience in HR communications, internal communications, or corporate communications.
• Excellent writing skills, including the ability to adapt writing style to reflect the nature of the stakeholder, audience, and message.
• Experience with social media platforms and/or digital communications apps; confident learning new btechnologies.
• Excellent verbal skills to partner with all levels of HR, leaders, and team members.
• Strong project management capabilities, with experience managing multiple projects effectively at one time.
• Flexible, comfortable with change, and committed to continuous improvement.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Suite.
• Demonstrated organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work well under deadlines and manage time effectively.
