Job summary

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) is seeking a Communications Specialist to develop world-class internal and external content for SMSC and its enterprises. You will gather information, write and edit material, and secure approvals for newsletters, reports, employee communications, blogs, ads, press releases, social media, and web copy.

You will report to the Manager of Communications and Content and work with a PR firm to manage media inquiries, press materials, and crisis

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in liberal arts, journalism, public relations, communications, or related field.
• Three years of work experience in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, writing, editing, or related field.
• Excellent writing and editing skills, and strong verbal communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to brand style, tone, and standards in a compelling manner.
• Experience working with a design team on content layout for published materials.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Writes, edits, and proofreads content for a wide variety of communication channels (print, web, social media, email, video).
• Conducts interviews with subject matter experts, attends events, and gathers information for stories.
• Fields media inquiries, prepares materials for submission, escorts media on site, and coordinates with PR firm for releases, media inquiries, and crisis communications.
