Job Summary

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for managing the benefits program for the company.

Essential Functions

  • In collaboration with HRBP, develop, implement and manage a comprehensive employee benefit package, considering factors like employee demographics and market competitiveness.
  • Manage relationship with benefit brokers, carriers and/or vendors to ensure all employee-related benefit claim submission/issues are being handled/resolved in a timely manner; benefit programs are being executed in the manner stated within the summary plan document; and compliance requirements are being achieved.
  • Clearly communicate benefits information to employees through various channels, including new hire and annual enrollment periods, email communication, and benefit summaries.
  • Manage and examine quarterly reports in relation to benefit utilization, employee satisfaction, and plan performance to contribute to decision-making.
  • In collaboration with benefit broker, ensure all benefit programs adhere to all applicable laws and regulations, including reporting requirements.
  • Manage frontline benefit support by answering the HR phone lines and shared HR email group to respond to general employee benefit requests and inquiries about group benefits programs within the same day.
  • Review, process and respond to Child Medical Support Orders and communicate mandatory deductions and benefit changes to Payroll Department.
  • Monitor data transfer process from the payroll system to ensure all employee terminations, transfers, status changes (FT/PT), etc., are being processed accordingly within the benefit system.
  • Review and approve weekly transfer of newly elected benefit deductions and/or benefit deduction changes within payroll system.
  • Update employee personnel file to document/saved employee benefit changes/waivers. Collect and verify dependent proof of relationship certificates for dependent benefit coverage.
  • In collaboration with Leave Specialist, review and process benefit coverage changes, and/or track and process benefit premium payments in relation to employee approved leave status.
  • Coordinate and conduct New Hire employee benefits orientation.
  • Create weekly new hire listing in preparation for Driver Orientation.
  • New Hire Form I9 and E-Verify completion for all new hires.
  • Perform other HR functions/duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Comprehensive understanding of various benefit plans to include health, disability, and life insurance.
  • Familiarity with relevant employment laws and regulations in relation to benefits.
  • Previous experience in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and transition from one project to another.
  • Intermediate Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to include composing business correspondence and communicating company-wide information.

Education and Experience:

  • 7-10 years of benefits program management experience and knowledge.

Employee Benefits:

  • Yearly starting salary: $70,000-$80,000 (Depending on knowledge & experience)
