Job description

Position Summary

This incumbent is based in Houston County and is responsible for paraprofessional work with County Extension Agents in a Food and Nutrition Education program for limited-resource clients (Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program). Plans, organizes, schedules, and conducts nutrition and food safety classes for limited resource clients. Prepares and conducts food demonstrations for group classes. This employee will exhibit qualities of independent judgment. Work is performed under general supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Effectively organizes time and materials by reviewing program lessons.
  • Develops shopping lists for necessary ingredients, coordinating multiple recipes or with other teammates.
  • Utilizes Outlook calendar to schedule and communicate programs, county events, and activities.
  • Complies with county funds policy/practices to purchase food demonstration supplies; manages invoices and ensures timely submission.
  • Submits mileage reimbursement for any shopping/program delivery/training per policy.
  • Conducts food preparation activities (chopping, mixing, slicing, dicing, measuring).
  • Uses basic kitchen equipment including cookware, mixers, knives, and baking equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge of inventory and supplies, coordinates inventory reconciliation.
  • Supports relationships with organizations to offer nutrition education.
  • Ensures full knowledge of educational content and delivers lessons effectively with appropriate methodology and food safety.
  • Leads activities and discussions and conducts food cooking/demonstrations for variable‑sized audiences.
  • Responds effectively and problem‑solves challenges associated with space allocation.
  • Ensures food safety in transport of supplies and when providing food samples.
  • Collects data from class participants via forms or other methodologies.
  • Conducts activities responsive to client needs, including evenings, weekends, and night schedules; flexible scheduling required.
  • Attends and completes all Extension training and UGA‑mandated training as appropriate.
  • Complies with UGA/Extension policy and procedures, recordkeeping, and accurate time recording.
  • Completes county‑based training as determined by County CEC or supervisor.
  • Uses Microsoft Office Suite and other UGA recordkeeping systems.
  • Assists with other events in the County as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn basic food preparation skills.
  • Strong communication skills and experience interacting with diverse groups.
  • Ability to relate effectively to young people and adults.
  • Leadership of groups, ability to speak clearly and with sufficient volume to be heard without amplification.
  • Skilled in working with clients with limited resources.
Physical Demands
  • Stand for long periods to present program to attendees.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Speak effectively to audiences without amplification.
  • Use kitchen tools including knives, spoons, blenders, choppers, etc.
  • Drive to perform job‑related duties.
