Job description

Position Summary

This position is located in Clayton County and is responsible for paraprofessional work with County Extension Agents in a food and nutrition education program for limited‑resource clients. The employee will exhibit independent judgment and work under general supervision. Job duties include planning, organizing, scheduling, and conducting nutrition and food safety classes for limited‑resource clients, including youth and adults. The employee also assists the County Extension Agent by researching and providing information requested by clients.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, organize, conduct, and evaluate education programs for low‑income adults, including preparing lesson plans, purchasing supplies, managing budgets, coordinating calendars, ensuring food safety, and collecting data.
  • Conduct nutrition and food safety classes for limited‑resource clients, including youth and adults, under the supervision of the County Extension Agent.
  • Assist the County Extension Agent by researching and providing requested information to clients.
  • Prepare shopping lists and coordinate ingredient procurement, ensuring efficient use of resources and proper documentation.
  • Schedule and communicate programs via Outlook calendar, ensuring accurate reflection of all activities.
  • Submit mileage reimbursement for shopping, program delivery, and training per policy.
  • Utilize kitchen equipment to demonstrate cooking techniques, maintaining food safety during transport and presentation.
  • Collect participant data via forms or other methodologies.
  • Adapt scheduling to include evenings, weekends, and night events, with flexible availability.
  • Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for activities.
  • Participate in in‑service staff development: complete required Extension training, UGA mandated training, comply with UGA/Extension policies, and complete county‑based training.
  • Assist with Extension/EFNEP events in the county: support relationships with partner organizations, use Microsoft Office Suite and other UGA record‑keeping systems, and assist with other events as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to relate effectively to young people and adults to lead them well in various settings.
  • Skilled in working with clients who have limited resources.
  • Ability to learn food preparation skills.
  • Strong communication skills and experience interacting with various groups of people.
  • Ability to lead groups effectively, speaking clearly and with sufficient volume to be heard without amplification.
Physical Demands
  • Stand for long periods to present the program to attendees.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Speak effectively to audiences.
  • Use kitchen tools—including knives, spoons, blenders, choppers, etc.—and manage food safely.
  • Drive to perform job‑related duties.
Additional Information
  • This position is a position of trust and involves direct interaction with clients and financial responsibilities, including the use of county funds and mileage reimbursement.
  • Background investigation, including a criminal background check and credit check, is required as part of the hiring process.
