Hall County EFNEP Program Assistant
Position Summary: This position is based in Hall County and is responsible for paraprofessional work under the supervision and direction of County Extension Agents/Supervisors. The incumbent provides paraprofessional work with County Extension Educator/Agents in a food and nutrition education program, planning, organizing, and conducting nutrition and food safety classes, preparing and conducting food demonstrations for group classes, and performing related support duties.
Responsibilities
- Effectively organize time and materials by reviewing program lessons and efficiently developing shopping lists for necessary ingredients, including coordinating lists for multiple recipes or with other teammates.
- Utilize Outlook calendar to schedule and communicate programs, county events and activities; ensure the calendar is thorough and reflects all activities accurately.
- Comply with county funds policy/practices to purchase food demonstration supplies, manage resources efficiently, ensure invoices are documented and submitted promptly, and store all food supplies safely.
- Submit mileage reimbursement for shopping, program delivery, or training in accordance with policy.
- Effectively conduct food preparation activities including chopping, mixing, slicing, dicing, and measuring ingredients; use basic household kitchen equipment such as cookware, mixers, knives, and baking equipment; ensure all program and teaching materials are ready for organized presentation.
- Maintain knowledge of inventory and supplies for demonstrations to minimize waste and over-purchasing; coordinate inventory reconciliation with other team members as appropriate.
- Support relationships with appropriate organizations to offer nutrition education as a Program Assistant.
- Ensure full knowledge of educational content to present lessons efficiently and safely.
- Lead activities, discussions, and food cooking/demonstrations for audiences of variable sizes.
- Respond effectively and problem-solve various challenges associated with space allocation.
- Ensure food safety in transportation of supplies and when providing food samples.
- Ensure effective data collection from participants via forms or other methodologies.
- Conduct activities that are responsive to client needs, including evenings, weekends, and night schedules; flexible scheduling is expected.
- Attend and complete all job-related Extension training.
- Comply with UGA and Extension policy and procedures for accurate recordkeeping and time recording.
- Complete county-based training as determined by County CEC or supervisor.
- Use Microsoft Office Suite and other UGA recordkeeping systems.
- Assist with other events in the County as needed; activities may occur on alternative schedules including weekend and evenings.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Ability to learn basic food preparation skills.
- Strong communication skills with experience interacting with diverse groups of people.
- Ability to lead groups effectively.
Physical Demands
- Stand for long periods while presenting programs to attendees.
- Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Speak effectively to audiences without amplification.
- Use kitchen tools including knives, spoons, blenders, and choppers.
- Drive as needed to perform job duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish) to support community outreach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in food and nutrition education.
- Knowledge of nutrition and food safety concepts.
