Position Summary

This incumbent is based in Houston County and is responsible for paraprofessional work with County Extension Agents in a Food and Nutrition Education program for limited-resource clients (Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program). Plans, organizes, schedules, and conducts nutrition and food safety classes for limited-resource clients. Prepares and conducts food demonstrations for group classes. This employee will exhibit qualities of independent judgment. Work is performed under general supervision.

Physical Demands
  • Stand for long periods to effectively present program to attendees.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Speak effectively to audiences without amplification.
  • Effectively use kitchen tools including knives, spoons, blenders, choppers, etc.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Effectively organizes time and materials by reviewing program lessons, develops shopping lists for ingredients, and coordinates lists of multiple recipes with other teammates.
  • Uses Outlook calendar to schedule and communicate programs, county events, and activities; ensures the calendar reflects all activities.
  • Complies with county funds policy/practices to purchase food demonstration supplies, manages resources, ensures invoices are documented and submitted timely, and stores all food supplies safely.
  • Submits mileage reimbursement for shopping/program delivery/training in accordance with policy.
  • Conducts food preparation activities including chopping, mixing, slicing, dicing, and measuring ingredients; uses basic kitchen equipment; prepares and delivers organized teaching materials.
  • Maintains knowledge of inventory and supplies for demonstrations; coordinates inventory reconciliation with team members as appropriate.
  • May support relationships with appropriate organizations to offer nutrition education as Program Assistant.
  • Ensures full knowledge of educational content to effectively present lessons as written and ensures food safety in preparation.
  • Leads activities and discussions; conducts food cooking/demonstrations for audiences of variable sizes.
  • Responds to challenges related to space allocation.
  • Ensures food safety in transportation of food supplies and when providing food samples.
  • Ensures effective data collection from class participants via forms or other methodologies.
  • Conducts activities responsive to client needs, including evenings, weekends, and night schedules. Flexible scheduling is needed.
