Job summary

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are recruiting a proactive Tenant Relationship Officer to support tenants and landlords across the private rented sector. You will provide advice, early intervention, and practical support to prevent homelessness, while working with landlords, partner agencies and council services to sustain tenancies.

The role requires understanding of housing legislation, strong communication, and the ability to manage a varied caseload with empathy and resilience.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with tenants, landlords and partner agencies.
• Ability to negotiate, mediate and resolve disputes.
• Experience handling a varied caseload and meeting deadlines.
• Strong investigative skills and evidence gathering.
• Ability to identify safeguarding concerns and take action.
• Competent IT skills including MS Office and case management systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide tenancy advice and support to residents at risk of homelessness from the private sector.
• Help tenants understand their rights and responsibilities under the Renters' Rights Act 2025.
• Support households affected by rent increases, possession action, and tenancy disputes.
• Work with landlords to resolve tenancy issues and prevent breakdowns.
• Conduct proactive enforcement to improve housing standards and generate income for the Council.
