Job Description and Position Requirements:

Housing Operations, a division of Auxiliary & Business Services (A&BS), is seeking candidates for the position of Manager. This role supports housing operations by overseeing daily activities within assigned buildings, directing staff, and ensuring effective operations, resource use, and excellence in Custodial, Maintenance, Service, Safety, and Teamwork.

This is an on-campus, non-telecommuting position.

Working with a diverse workforce, the manager will ensure a well-maintained, safe, and secure living environment for students and guests, supporting at least 50 technical service employees across various housing options for over 3,500 students, with supervision of 8-15 employees in 3-4 buildings housing 600-1,000 residents. All employees are expected to embody Penn State's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Responsibilities:
  1. Direct daily activities of staff and technical service employees to ensure operational standards, safety, and effective resource use.
  2. Inspect residential areas, observe employee performance, and implement improvements.
  3. Identify maintenance issues, initiate projects, and oversee corrective actions.
  4. Conduct annual performance evaluations and counsel employees on performance and related matters.
  5. Maintain safety standards, conduct safety inspections, assist with accident investigations, and monitor safety systems.
  6. Monitor budgets and operational statements to meet financial goals.
  7. As a designated Essential Employee, respond to critical incidents, and work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. This is a 100% on-site position.

Excellent communication skills, good judgment, multitasking ability, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are essential.

Education & Experience:

Minimum: Associate's degree plus four years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination. APPA credentials (EFP or CEFP) are preferred but not required.

About A&BS:

Auxiliary & Business Services supports thirteen units, including Housing & Food Services, Culinary Support, and others, providing essential services across the university.

Additional Information:
