Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s Housing Services and the Office of Residential Education are seeking an Assistant Director of Housing Operations – Assignments to oversee assignment processes, manage StarRez data, and coordinate front desk support in a busy university housing environment. The role requires a bachelor’s (master’s preferred), 3–5 years in housing/residence life, and strong leadership.

You’ll supervise staff, improve occupancy planning, and ensure accurate communications with students

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field highly desired.
• 3–5 years of relevant work experience required; experience in Housing/Residence Life preferred.
• Experience using StarRez or similar housing software preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all housing assignment processes including Upper-class Housing/Room Selection, First-Year Assignments, waitlist, and room changes; manage Winter Break housing.
• Maintain and oversee housing application processes, forms, and StarRez portal activities; ensure data integrity.
• Primary communication channel for assignments questions from students and parents (email, phone, walk-ins); supervise staff and student workers.
