Job summary

S:US is seeking a Housing Specialist for their women's shelter in Manhattan, located at West 135th Street New York, NY. The role focuses on building relationships with housing providers and guiding residents toward permanent housing.

Responsibilities include counseling, workshops, referrals, assisting with housing applications, and coordinating interviews to help consumers secure stable housing and maintain it long-term.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years in human services field and knowledge of trauma.
• Good interpersonal skill set, able to work independently and still function as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Solid computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft.
• Bachelor’s degree in human Services or related field preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish speaking preferred.

Responsibilities

• The Housing Specialist will establish linkages and maintain solid working relationships with supportive housing providers, real estate brokers, managing agents, and landlords as a resource for consumers.
• Provide supportive social services including individual and group counseling, workshops, education, referrals, and escorting to prepare consumers for securing and maintaining permanent housing.
• Prepare and assist consumers with the housing application/interview process.
