Job summary

Services for the UnderServed is seeking a Housing Specialist in New York, NY to support homeless prevention efforts at Homebase. The role focuses on assessing housing needs, submitting applications to landlords and programs, and coordinating with shelters and housing resources.

The position requires at least a high school diploma and two years in human services, with trauma knowledge and strong interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years in human services field preferred.
  • Knowledge of trauma and trauma-informed approach.
  • Good interpersonal skill set; able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Solid computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Interview clients to assess housing needs and submit applications to community resources.
  • Conduct groups to discuss housing options and how to secure an apartment.
  • Accompany residents to housing interviews and housing fairs.
  • Submit housing applications for programs (Section 8, NYCHA).
  • Refer residents to public assistance and monitor compliance with programs.
  • Maintain accurate records and progress notes in client charts.
