Job summary

Lantern Community Services Inc in the Bronx, NY, is seeking an experienced Housing Specialist to help clients secure permanent housing and attain greater self-sufficiency at Hudson Bay shelter. You will work with shelter and case management teams to orient clients to housing searches, assist with applications and appointments, and accompany them to viewings and moves.

The role requires a High School diploma and at least two years in housing placement, with English/Spanish bilingual skills

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of housing application and placement experience.
• Experience with homelessness, mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or low-income populations.
• Strong relationship-building, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to work evening and/or weekend shifts on a rotating schedule.

Responsibilities

• Conduct housing intake and assessment interviews for new clients.
• Ensure compliance with timelines for permanent housing placement.
• Assist with housing components of plans and updates as needed.
• Support Case Managers with housing applications and required documentation.
• Prepare housing reports and collect data for funders.
• Facilitate client workshops on housing processes and budgeting.
• Develop housing resources and educate clients on subsidies, vouchers, and benefits.
• Escort clients to viewings and housing-related appointments.
• Support move-out and transition to permanent housing.
• Document counseling, referrals, escorts, and discharge planning activities.
• Participate in meetings and required trainings.
