Job summary

BestSelf is seeking a Housing Specialist to help homeless mentally ill individuals obtain safe housing and maintain stability in their residences. You will coordinate with housing agencies, assess eligibility for government housing programs, and support clients in daily living skills as part of the Homeless Services Housing Team.

You will also perform case management duties, link clients to services, and assist with landlord/tenant issues while adhering to program requirements and supervisor

Qualifications

• Knowledge of common mental disabilities and substance abuse disorders and ability to work with the target population.
• Awareness of community housing resources.
• Strong oral and written communication, basic math, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work productively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
• Flexibility, initiative, and ability to work independently in developing client resources.

Responsibilities

• Maintain file of available housing resources.
• Screen clients for eligibility for housing programs (e.g., Shelter Plus Care).
• Meet with clients and landlords to resolve problems.
• Coordinate support services and provide transportation as needed.
• Participate in team meetings, outreach, and case finding.
• Monitor client stability and treatment participation.
• Maintain records and reports.
• May work flexible hours including evenings and with individuals requiring support.
• Schedule and duties may change based on program needs.
