Job summary

The Boston Housing Authority (BHA) seeks an experienced attorney to represent the Authority in civil litigation and provide ongoing legal counsel to staff, with a focus on landlord-tenant and housing law. Under the General Counsel, you will manage complex matters and help shape policy and procedures.

You will represent BHA in state and federal courts, advise staff on laws and regulations, draft and review contracts and leases, and contribute to training for non-legal staff.

Qualifications

• Law degree from an accredited USA law school is required.
• Bar admission in Massachusetts or eligibility for admission by reciprocity.
• Experience in general litigation including trial, motion, and appellate practice preferred.
• Background in private or public housing laws and regulations and/or litigation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Represents the Authority in state and federal courts, admin bodies, and internal hearings on landlord-tenant, public housing and Section 8 matters; housing code violations; and related areas.
• Advises staff on applicable laws, regulations, and best practices; assists in policy development and interpretation.
• Prepares, reviews, and negotiates contracts, leases, and other agreements; drafts legislation and regulations; and provides legislative testimony.
