Job summary

Durham Housing Authority seeks a Staff Attorney to provide legal representation, counsel, and litigation support across landlord-tenant matters, lease enforcement, collections, and compliance. The attorney reports to the In-House Counsel and independently manages a high-volume caseload while supporting DHA departments.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice in North Carolina.
• At least 1 year of litigation, housing, government, or related legal experience.
• Experience representing clients in court or administrative hearings.
• Strong research, writing, advocacy, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Represent DHA in district court, administrative hearings, and other proceedings.
• Develop litigation strategies and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.
• Advise DHA departments on legal risks arising from operations and compliance.
• Draft pleadings, motions, notices, contracts, and other legal documents.
• Maintain litigation files, prepare reports, and manage caseloads.
