Job description

Job Summary: Serves as a working leader at a Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and/or Navy Lodge property, responsible for leading and inspecting the work of team members in performing housekeeping duties to ensure program standards are met. Regularly performs the full range and scope of housekeeping services comparable to a Housekeeping Attendant, including but not limited to cleaning guest rooms, public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, exterior spaces, etc. These services include vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, moving items, polishing, cleaning, removing debris, trash, transporting linens and towels, etc. Uses hand and powered cleaning equipment in performing duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Oversees and communicates instructions received from supervisors or managers to Housekeeping Attendants. Assists in training new associates and answers questions regarding policies, procedures, and directives.
2. Ensures work schedules are followed, keeps supervisors informed of work status, and advises on problem areas.
3. Trains personnel on proper work methods, ensures efficient cleaning methods, and maintains availability of cleaning materials and linens.
4. Performs the same cleaning duties as the associates led, maintaining work continuity in the supervisor's absence.
5. Maintains records of housekeeping activities, including room occupancy and turnover dates.
6. Conducts daily inspections of rooms, carts, common areas, and laundry facilities, documenting findings.
7. Maintains guest privacy and security at all times.
8. Manages security of storerooms and supplies, orders necessary items, and ensures proper equipment maintenance.
9. Handles guest and staff suggestions or complaints tactfully, escalating issues as needed.
10. Performs the full range of housekeeping services regularly, including cleaning, laundry, and exterior spaces, using appropriate equipment.
11. May assist with breakfast setup, display, replenishment, and cleanup, obtaining necessary food handling certifications.
12. Maintains a safe environment, applying safety protocols and handling contaminated linens appropriately.
13. Performs laundry operations and inspections.
14. Possesses a valid driver’s license for travel between facilities as required.
15. May be called upon to support operations during emergencies or inclement weather in the absence of the supervisor.
16. May need to obtain NHG housekeeping certification within 6 months and other certifications as required.
