Job summary

Job description

Town Hall Seattle seeks a seasonal, part-time House Manager to manage day-of-show logistics and public safety at Town Hall produced events and rental events. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Production, the House Manager works with the production staff to ensure a clean, safe, and customer service-oriented environment for our patrons. The House Manager serves as liaison to Town Hall rental clients, artists and speakers, press, booksellers, and other event personnel. Shifts vary in length but are typically 5-7 hours. Shift times vary based on event needs. Evening and weekend hours are required, with a minimum availability of 3 shifts per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
  • Act as the primary day-of point of contact between Town Hall and presenters, performers, and rental clients; set a professional and positive tone for all interactions.
  • Oversee hourly production staff during events. Expertly manage large and complex events with highly coordinated project delegation.
  • Assist in training new house staff by shadowing, answering questions, offering guidance as able.
  • Open building and ensure presentable condition of exterior and all event spaces. Manage cleaning and maintenance as necessary to keep facility in a continuously event-ready state. This may at times include interacting with the unhoused community in our neighborhood.
  • Take initiative and proactively coordinate event setup, execution, and strike/reset. Facilitate all elements of the event including but not limited to box office operations,, accessibility accommodations, and run-of-show.
  • Supervise cafe operations including open and close timing, till setup and reconciliation, recognizing capacity needs, and assisting with service as needed.
  • Articulate and enforce Town Hall policies and regulations to building users.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to ensure proper set-up and a clear plan for the run of show.
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed with the support of Town Hall’s staff and volunteers.
  • Submit detailed post-event reports.
  • Actively engage in work with a positive attitude as a member of the Town Hall team. Ensure that all interactions are culturally responsive, respectful, and based on a foundation of Town Hall’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.
  • Attend regular production meetings with the house management team, held primarily in person.
  • Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum two years of experience in theater, event production, catering, food service, or related fields.
  • Ability to work a schedule as assigned by production leadership and as dictated by monthly event calendar (typically 12-20 hours per week); ability and willingness to work long hours when necessary.
  • Must be able to work a varied and flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
  • Excellent organizational, supervisory, and customer service skills. Ability to work quickly and independently, think clearly under pressure, solve problems and prioritize needs, and maintain a calm and friendly demeanor when interacting with the public.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to take strong initiative as a shift lead but work well as a team member.
  • Ability to follow written instructions and communicate effectively with others in oral and written form.
  • Familiarity with, or ability to quickly learn, software applications, lighting, sound, and basic audio-visual systems and equipment.
  • Maintain high quality service and execution standards including proper professional attire.
  • Experience with public speaking is a plus.
  • A current Washington State Food Handler’s Permit and MAST alcohol server’s permit (may be obtained after hire).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. and remain active for extended periods, including standing or walking for 75% of a shift and regularly navigating stairs.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Starting hourly rate is $25/hour and the position is non-exempt
  • This position is intermittent and seasonal from September-June, with potential limited summer hours.
  • Paid sick and safe time, per Washington state law
  • Meal stipend based on shift eligibility
  • Subsidized ORCA card for travel to and from shifts
