Job summary

HELP USA in New York, NY seeks a House Manager to lead a team of Residential Aides at Randalls and Wards Islands shelter. You will welcome new clients, ensure safety, and enforce program rules during the intake process.

You will supervise staff, coordinate with DHS CARES, manage documentation, and address client concerns while fostering a respectful environment for people experiencing homelessness and mental health challenges.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent or experience and skills.
  • FDNY F-02 is required within 30 days from hire to obtain.
  • FDNY F80 Fireguard Certificate required within 60 days from hire to obtain.
  • Prior supervisory experience in residential facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and conduct initial intakes for new clients and complete required paperwork.
  • Resolve client concerns and record progress notes in the DHS CARES system.
  • Supervise inspections of the facility and dorms; maintain safety and order.
  • Develop and guide the Residential Aides team with clear expectations and regular supervision.

Job Description
What You’ll Do

As House Manager, you and the team of Residential Aides you supervise will be among the first members of HELP USA to interact with our new clients when they enter our shelter. Accordingly, it is critical that you are welcoming and supportive at a very difficult time in the lives of our clients. You’ll work closely with Safety Tour Supervisors to maintain a safe, secure, and productive environment; and you’ll foster positive working relationships with Social Services, Maintenance, and other Team Members.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supervising and conducting initial intakes for all new clients:ensuring that all paperwork is completed and progress notes and other information are entered into the DHS CARES system;making bed assignments;and familiarizing new clients to our site and our programso that they understand the rules and requirements of the facility as well as the daily routine including information such as mealtimes, passes, curfews, etc.

Helping to resolve client's concerns,difficulties, and grievances, entering progress notes into the DHS CARES case management system for all contacts with and on behalf of clients.

Supervising and participating in regular inspections of the facility, including all client rooms and dorms.

Developing your team of Residential Aides by communicating clear expectations and priorities for job performance, providing ongoing feedback and guidance through regular individual supervision sessions, setting team goals and values, and holding regular team meetings.

You’re a great fit for this role if you have:

High School Diploma or equivalent OR equivalent experience and skills.

  • FDNY F-02 required (30-day allowance from date of hire to obtain).
  • FDNY F80 Fireguard Certificate required (60-day allowance from date of hire to obtain).

Prior supervisory experience and experience working in residential facilities.

Capacity to work with people experiencing homelessness and mental illnessor otherdisadvantaged people.

Strong customer service orientation and ability to skillfullymanage interpersonal relationships.

Ability to effectively conduct interviews with clients and create clear, concise, and accurate documentation.

Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Ability to provide night and weekend coverage as needed.

Compensation

Actual compensation will not be less than the applicable minimum wage, prevailing wage, or exempt salary requirements under federal, state and local laws.
