Gateway Film Foundation Job Description: House Manager

Position Overview

The House Manager is responsible for executing tasks designed to support the Gateway Film Foundation mission, maintain legally compliant business practices, ensure Foundation policies are followed at all times, achieve budgeted sales and expense goals, assist in the creation of Coordinator and Associate scheduling, keep the Foundation patrons, our employees, and our assets safe, and help Foundation Associates succeed through coaching, direction, and discipline when appropriate.

This role requires an organized and pragmatic worker, regularly exhibiting our values while helping to advance the Gateway Film Foundation mission.

The House Manager helps the General Manager lead the Film Center team and plays an important role in executing daily tasks.

Responsibilities
Achieving Goals
  • Promotes the mission of Gateway Film Foundation, ensures policy compliance, achieves budget goals, and promotes workplace safety guidelines.
  • Supervises and manages the daily performance of scheduled hospitality and service staff, including Coordinators and Associates.
  • Responsible for the appropriate discipline of Coordinators and Associates when acts of policy non-compliance occur.
  • Participates in creating work schedules for hospitality and service staff, including Coordinators and Associates.
  • Ensures policies and processes are properly executed and helps Associates understand how their jobs connect with the Foundation's goals.
  • Communicates individual performance expectations and results to Film Center employees.
  • Manages project planning, execution, and timely delivery of assigned tasks.
  • Provides regular updates to the General Manager regarding the performance of annual goals and objectives.
  • Leads in fostering a culture that reflects the Foundation's mission and values.
Organizational Leadership
  • Ensures all Foundation policies are followed and reports any compliance gaps.
  • Recognizes good performances and addresses poor performances, documenting and reporting as needed.
  • Facilitates collaboration and effective communication among team members, promoting a positive, multicultural work environment.
  • Manages patron service and operational processes to meet Foundation objectives.
Financial Management
  • Leads efforts to ensure legally compliant business standards are maintained.
  • Works to reduce shrinkage related to spoilage, waste, and theft.
Community Relations and Fundraising
  • Serves as a representative of the Gateway Film Foundation to constituents, staff, and the public.
  • Assists in executing fundraising initiatives for donors and sponsors.
Visitor Experience
  • Leads coaching, training, and development of Film Center employees.
  • Ensures high standards in internal and external activities.
  • Supports delivery of high-quality, community-relevant programming.
  • Manages the myGFC membership program, the Gallery at Gateway Film Center, and the Film Center Retail store.

Reports to: General Manager, Gateway Film Center

Anticipated Schedule: Varies, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Compensation: Hourly wage plus 10% incentive, paid quarterly, based on staff performance, sales, and expense management.
