POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a hands-on, dependable Hotel Maintenance Engineer to oversee the daily maintenance, repair, and preventative care of the hotel's physical plant, guest rooms, and public areas. This is a full-service hotel that is Green Certified and offers an outdoor pool, hot tub, fitness center, business center, and over 1,350 square feet of flexible meeting space.
The ideal candidate is a skilled problem solver with strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and general building systems who takes pride in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and guest-ready property. This role plays a critical part in ensuring equipment reliability, guest satisfaction, safety, and overall property appearance.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of hotel maintenance engineering experience
- Must currently live in the Tallahassee market or be willing to relocate; relocation assistance available for the right candidate
- Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and general building repairs
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while effectively supporting hotel operations and guest needs
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building systems
- Respond quickly to guest room maintenance requests and resolve issues with minimal disruption to the guest experience
- Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, equipment, and building systems
- Maintain and monitor HVAC, boilers, pools, life-safety systems, and other critical equipment
- Identify and correct safety hazards, equipment deficiencies, and maintenance issues before they impact guests or operations
- Complete work orders accurately and on schedule using the property's maintenance management system
- Perform general repairs including painting, drywall, carpentry, fixtures, doors, locks, and other property improvements
- Maintain an organized inventory of tools, parts, supplies, and equipment
- Support energy-management and cost-control initiatives
- Assist with capital improvement and preventative maintenance projects
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for emergency maintenance needs
- Follow all OSHA, property, brand, and safety requirements, including proper PPE and lockout/tagout procedures
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- 3+ years of hotel or commercial building maintenance experience
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and general repair
- EPA Universal Certification preferred; willingness to obtain certification considered
- Pool operator certification is a plus
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical documentation
- Strong customer service skills and professional communication when interacting with guests
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations
- High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or technical certification preferred
