Job summary

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, NJ is seeking a part-time Telephone Operator to join our patient-centered team. The role handles high-volume calls, paging, and directs callers using a PC/Windows-based console.

You will support emergency communications, maintain logs, assist in training staff, and uphold the center's Code of Conduct while delivering professional, compassionate service in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of experience as a Telephone Operator on a heavy-volume switchboard; hospital setting preferred.
• 2-3 years of experience preferred.
• Good PC/Keyboard skills required.
• Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills.
• Speaks, reads, and writes English; second language a plus.

Responsibilities

• Channels all incoming calls and provides direct numbers; connects to local and out-of-state numbers using a PC/Windows-based console.
• Provides paging services: overhead, beepers, codes, traumas, disasters.
• Takes messages from emergency numbers and logs information for departmental follow-up.
• Provides telephone and communication services for emergencies per hospital policies.
• Assists in training new telephone room personnel and maintains departmental logs and standards.
