Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of experience as a Telephone Operator on a heavy-volume switchboard (hospital preferred).
• Strong communication and PC skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Channels all incoming calls and provides direct numbers as needed; connects callers to local/out-of-state numbers using a PC/Windows-based console.
• Provides paging services: overhead, beepers, fire alerts, codes, traumas, disasters.
• Takes messages from the emergency number and reports problems to the appropriate department; logs information.
• Delivers telephone and communication services for emergency situations per hospital policies (codes, traumas, disasters).
• Familiarizes self with daily lists and announcements to provide accurate information to callers.
• Assists in training new telephone room personnel by answering questions and explaining the system.
• Maintains departmental logs and records (e.g., fire alarms, unusual situations).
• Adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and mission/values statements.
• Maintains policies, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Provides customer service with respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, and patience.
