Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a dedicated switchboard operator to monitor and operate the hospital's switchboard, answer and direct calls, and manage overhead paging and emergency communications.

You will triage calls by urgency, respond to alarms and medical emergencies, and ensure accurate logging and privacy compliance under HIPAA. Basic computer skills and reliable communication are essential; training provided as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience and/or training.
• Excellent telephone skills and interpersonal communication skills.
• Preferred: Training as a Telephone Operator, Receptionist, or priority Dispatcher.

Responsibilities

• Answers and directs all telephone calls and overhead paging inquiries for efficient operation. Triages calls by urgency and routes accordingly.
• Responds to alarms, security calls, and medical emergencies; pages responders and logs information; may reprogram alarm system after activation.
• Maintains and cleans switchboard equipment and resolves malfunctions per procedures.
