Job summary

Blood Bank of Hawaii is seeking a Hospital Services Technician 1 to assist in inventorying and distributing blood components and to provide excellent customer service to BBH customers.

You will follow SOPs, perform daily maintenance, and handle orders for shipment, labeling, quarantining, and disposal of components. The role requires flexibility in scheduling and a professional attitude.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Previous medical/clinical laboratory experience.
  • Flexible with schedule and ability to work varying shifts.
  • Professional attitude toward responsibilities and customers.
  • PPEs must be worn in the laboratory at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Follows organizational policies and procedures and performs duties in compliance with BBH SOPs, cGMPs, and external regulations.
  • Assures quality customer service to all customers.
  • Performs daily maintenance in the Hospital Services department.
  • Receives orders from customers and prepares appropriate components for shipment.
  • Inspects, labels, quarantines and discards (discards) blood components.
  • Recognizes common equipment and procedural problems and takes appropriate initial response, communicates, and performs follow-up
  • Properly processes imported and returned components from hospital customers and other blood centers.
  • Packs recovered plasma for further manufacturing.
  • Processes requests for inter-hospital transfers and product retrievals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Primary Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Hospital Services Supervisor, theHospital Services Technician 1is responsible for assisting in the inventorying and distribution of blood components and provision of excellent customer service to all Blood Bank of Hawaii customers.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follows organizational policies and procedures and performs duties in compliance with BBH SOPs, cGMPs, and external regulations.
  • Assures quality customer service to all customers.
  • Performs daily maintenance in the Hospital Services department.
  • Receives orders from customers and prepares appropriate components for shipment.
  • Inspects, labels, quarantines and destroys (discards) blood components.
  • Recognizes common equipment and procedural problems and takes appropriate initial response, communicates, and performs follow-up

Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Previous medical/clinical laboratory experience.
  • Flexible with schedule – able to adjust to varying work schedule and days off
  • Professional attitude/behavior towards job responsibilities and internal/external customers.
  • PPE’s-Appropriate personal protective equipment to be worn in the laboratory at all times.

  • Good oral, reading and written communication skills with the ability to give detailed information or instructions, ask questions that can be easily understood, and read, comprehend and apply information contained in written materials. Clear and legible handwriting.
