Job summary

Upstate Veterinary Specialties in Latham, NY seeks a Compliance and Safety Specialist to implement and coordinate safety programs hospital-wide. You will support OSHA, DEA, and state/federal regulations, conduct hazard assessments, and maintain required compliance documentation.

You will work with leadership and managers to promote a safe environment, identify risks, and ensure ongoing regulatory compliance across facilities and clinical teams.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Healthcare or veterinary ops safety and compliance knowledge.
• Ability to read regulations and apply them practically.
• Proven record of documentation accuracy and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct monthly safety inspections across hospital areas.
• Verify extinguishers, eyewash, lighting, spill kits, and labeling.
• Monitor fire inspection compliance and document actions taken.
• Coordinate inspections with Facilities Manager and teams.
• Assist in emergency preparedness and disaster plans.
• Maintain OSHA postings and SDS catalog access.
• Conduct quarterly incident reviews and report trends to HR/leadership.
• Develop safety trainings with Training Team and perform orientation.
• Oversee medical waste and sharps programs with vendors.
• Coordinate disposal records and proof of destruction.
• Collaborate on hazardous drug handling and radiology safety.
• Escalate safety concerns to leadership as needed.
• Ensure DEA compliance and CSOS-related tasks.
• Maintain regulatory documentation for audits and inspections.
